The new airport receives a go-ahead to extend a runway Wednesday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration and Army Corps of Engineers have approved a 1,600 foot extension of the runway at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

Airport officials say they will start work on the extension immediately, so it will be finished in time for a test flight by the F.A.A. on January 18th, 2010.
Once completed the runway will extend 10,000 feet.
