Alys Beach in South Walton County has been a vacation spot since 2004. Now those driving down 30A near Alys Beach will soon see even more construction.
When Jason Comer, the developer, started on the project in 2004 the county only allowed the project approved with the possibility of about 600 units.
But later the county changed traffic restrictions and allowed Alys Beach to plan for 899 units. And according to the marketing office many lots have been sold and will soon start construction on both the north and south ends of 30A. The land for Alys Beach was originally purchased in the 1970’s by Comer’s grandparents, who vacationed in South Walton beginning back in the 1940’s.
Tom Dodson, the Vice President of Sales for Alys Beach says that it’s quite a unique development with plans to launch a product line “…We’re hoping to launch a new product series that we have here, Caliza courts, that we hope to offer late this spring and so there’s a number of new initiatives taking place now as we move through the 2010 time frame.”
According to sales it’s not just a vacation spot. Over eighteen percent of residents live there full time.
