One group believes alcohol sales could help the county bring in more tax dollars in Washington County, but another group doesn’t agree.
Residents gathered at the Ebro town hall to discuss what they believe makes Washington County stand out as a dry county. There was also a presentation from a mother whose son was hit by a drunk driver. He survived, but with serious injuries.
A group called “The Washington County Citizens for Economic Opportunity ’ believe turning Washington County wet would keep more business in the county, generating more money.
“Just what we’ve seen here tonight in the presentation the young man got crippled, man got killed,” said Alcus Bryant, who attended the meeting, “We see too much of that, it’s a waste of life and life is divine, life is God-given.”
“A business that comes to Washington County would know that their employees that are from Washington County are good decent families and individuals,” said another attendee, Mary Miles.
The group’s next meeting is September 22nd at the Washington County agriculture center in Chipley.

I am a Washington County landowner and resident MY question or comment is why shouldn’t we reap the benefits that other counties get from liqour sales when if a Wahington county resident wants their liqour they will drive the 12 miles from vernon or from anywhere in the county to Bonifay, Graceville, Panama City or Walton county to get it and bring it back to our county. The ones that don’t drink like me don’t have to buy it. It is not just the drunk drivers you have to watch out for it is everybody on the road. I am all for it and I will vote for it.
