Bay County, Fla:
An amendment that would require a vote on comprehensive plan changes is the hot topic of today’s joint chamber meeting.
Representatives Marti Coley and Jimmy Patronis discussed a couple of issues that will be on the ballot soon at the joint Bay County and Panama City Beach chamber meeting.
The first part of the breakfast was business as usual.
But instead of making speeches, Representatives Coley and Patronis opened the floor for questions. Only a few were asked and most of them concerned political issues. One of the issues that the representatives addressed concerned hometown democracy, which will come up on the ballot soon.
Coley says the issue… if voted into action… could slow down progress on a local level.
She says hometown democracy could slow down the process local governments use to get things done. So in essence, everything would take a lot longer and cost more. Proponents of the amendment say the goal is to change the current regime of “government of the developer… by the developer and for the developer” by giving veto power over growth plan changes to local voters.
The issue will go before voters in the 2010 General Election.
This will not make much change here Like they let the people vote on the new air port, which they was again, but they building it any way.

Democracy in america,,,only a dream long gone, local government has taken after it’s bigger brother state government, i really thought when jimmy got in he would actually reflect the wishes of the people he worked for but i’m finding he not much different than the rest,,politicians being lead around by big bussiness and their money. Democracy died with our forefathers, unfortunatly.
