The new Bay County Jail is now housing around 900 prisoners, but a problem finding permanent staff is causing the Sheriff’s Office to expand the search. The Bay County Sheriff’s department has been searching for staff for the new jail. The current staff members are employed by the Corrections Corporation of America. So far, the sheriff’s office has only recommended around 190 for hire out of around 270 applicants.

On October 9th, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office will take over the facility and many of the current CCA staff will become BCSO employees.

Sheriff Frank McKeithen says the correctional officer field here in Bay County is very competitive so many possible applicants are applying elsewhere.

He went on to say that they are closely examining applicants to make sure they pick the right people.

The jail contains all Bay County prisoners as of Saturday. The prisoners were moved from the old jail Saturday afternoon with no resulting problems. The only remaining issue is to complete the hiring process for the new facility.

Just for FYI my instinct told me to use common sense and call the Sheriffs office. I was connected to personnel and after asking what positions were needing to be filled, I was told none. The lady whose name was Laci told me there were not any open positions they are accepting applications.

This article is nice. However, after viewing the news and coming to this story I still don’t see the article leading to directions in applying for employment with the Sheriff’s office.
