Panama City Beach, Fla:
When double red flags fly over the beach it takes the fun out of the water and onto the sand. Rough waves create a risky situation and to top it off it’s windy weather.
“Kind of unbearable at points so it’s kind of frustrating when you’re trying to get a tan and everything,” said spring breaker, Roxy Rodriguez.
It’s not what most spring breakers expected, but they don’t care. One group of girls said they just wanted to have fun after a 19 hour car ride from Missouri. So, they tested the tides.
“I’ve never been to the ocean, so I decided to run in anyway,” said spring breaker, Taylor Fisher.
The Panama City Beach Police Department tries to give warnings. That’s because, it could get deadly.
“There are dangers associated with any ocean or gulf that you need to pay attention to,” said Panama City Beach Police Department’s Major Dave Humphreys.
It’s not just about the look of the water, it’s about the feel. If you actually walk out and let the water touch your toes, you know it’s cold. It’s about 62 degrees and it’s hoped chilly conditions help keep people out of danger
“It’d be nice to have the option, but I don’t think I’d be in it, because it’s so cold,” said spring breaker, Madeline Taylor.
To keep people safe PCBPD patrols.
“There’s a reason why we put the double reds up, we’re not trying to harass people we’re trying to keep people safe,” said Humphreys.
