The coaching days are behind him, but Bobby Bowden still loves to travel to the panhandle and speak at churches and community events.
The legendary former FSU head coach spoke at two services today at Hiland Park Baptist Church here in Panama City.
Bowden gave his testimony and also threw in a little humor on top of that.
Now retired, Bowden says he can just relax and not worry about the X’s and O’s of football.
He stays busy speaking at events and also playing a little golf here and there.
Coach Bowden recently just got back from a trip to Jerusalem and he told those in attendance his experiences there.
The 80-year-old says he doesn’t necessarily miss football, but he misses the players and the fellow coaches.
Although Florida State opens up against his alma mater Samford on September 4th, Bowden says he is keeping his distance from Doak Campbell so Jimbo Fisher can establish himself there.
“I have been there for 34 years. It’s not fair to hang around while the other coach is trying to get established. I told him, look, I’m leaving town, I’ll be gone for a year. If they ever need me, they can call me. I’ll be watching all the games on television. That is funny, that’s my University, my alma mater against Florida State University. It will be a very interesting thing to me, but I won’t be there,” said Bowden.
