With the United States facing some of the toughest economic times in recent history, local law enforcement has been faced with an increase in property crimes.  This month, the Bonifay Police Department has responded to several retail theft reports from various businesses.  The Department has taken a proactive approach and increased patrols of local businesses in hopes of being a deterrent to theft.  A decrease in reports has been observed in the past two weeks.  Some of the recent arrests include:

Miranda Jane Wright (W/F 23 YOA) of Bonifay has been charged with retail theft after an officer observed her removing flowering plants from a local business and placing them in the backseat of her vehicle after business hours on October 5th.  Wright was issued a notice to appear in County Court.

Melissa Eileen Miller (W/F 35 YOA) and Bridget Cenella Raby (W/F 24 YOA) both of Caryville were arrested for retail theft occurring at two different stores on October 7th.  The first reporter could only provide a physical description and partial license plate on the suspect’s vehicle.  The pair left the immediate area only to return to another store later in the afternoon.  The suspects exited the second store through the entrance doors with their stolen goods setting off the anti-theft alarm.  Stolen property from both businesses was recovered and returned to the victims.  Both Miller and Raby were transported to the Holmes County Jail.

Robert Daniel Turberville (W/M 18 YOA) and a seventeen-year-old white male juvenile accomplice, both of Bonifay were arrested on October 9th when a witness observed Turberville removing security tags from store merchandise and place it in his pocket.  Also, according to the witness the juvenile was acting as a “watch-out” to warn of any approaching witnesses.  Both Turberville and the juvenile were transported to the Holmes County Jail, where the juvenile was release to his parents.

The Bonifay Police Department would like for all patrons of local businesses to be watchful for suspicious activity.  Also, please remember to secure your vehicle and put any recently purchased merchandise in your trunk or otherwise out of view.
