Bay County, Fla:

The possibility of a federal indictment against the seven guards and nurse involved in the Martin Lee Anderson Boot Camp case has some Panama City attorneys concerned.  It all involves the uncertainty surrounding what changes President-elect Barack Obama will make once he takes office.

Whenever there is a new president he has the chance to make some changes in the justice system by appointing new U.S. Attorneys.  That means there could be turnover in Florida’s Northern Judicial District, the district that handled the Boot Camp case.

Waylon Graham, the attorney for guard Charles Helms, says it’s time for everyone to move on.

“They’ve been through a trial.  They were found not guilty.  If you recall the verdict came very quickly because the case was so bad.”

He’s worried a change in the White House could directly affect us here in Panama City, if Obama appoints new U.S. attorneys who want to reopen the case.

“They have an unlimited budget.  The Treasury Department can write checks from here to the end of time.  If they invest an unlimited amount of money in this who knows what they can do.  They could break these men because most of these men cannot afford to go back and hire private lawyers again,” continued Graham.

If an unlimited budget is what it takes, the NAACP doesn’t have a problem with that.

“There’s been a lot of talking.  We don’t think that they made an effort to truly do anything about it.  They were hoping that it would go away.  We’ve been to them quite a few times to tell them to please move on this issue.  They continued to tell us they were investigating,” said Charles Evans with the NAACP.

Graham believes if a federal charge is brought against the guards and nurse it would be for a civil rights violation.  News13 also spoke with Hoot Crawford who represented guard Henry Dickens.  He says he hopes this does not happen.

There are alot of us in this town that served a country that used to take pride in doing the right thing. Now everything is about greed. Front beach road should be renamed since you can’t see the beach when you drive down it. Why does the ex-Home Depot CEO get hired by another failing company and now in line to get another golden parachute cashout. Now people want government intervention. But greed is the worst by-product of capitalism. We cannot bailout these companies and take control. That’s socialistic. Instead of making homeowning affordable, they raise interest rates. Instead of lowering credit card interest rates, they raise it and lower your available credit. Well if they want to stimulate the economy, isn’t this approach backwards?

My daughter is an Ammo troop at Eglin AFB right now.  She keeps her “coin” with her at all times.  I’m very proud of her.  She’s got her line number for Staff Sgt. and just finished Airman Leadership School.

I feel like a gun has never committed a crime. People using guns do. The focus should be on the person not the weapon since the criminal will just find something else to use as a weapon. Guns I guess are a easy target. Hopefully we will spend more time focusing on the greed that has caused alot of the problems in the economy today than guns. Let Big Oil bailout the automakers since Chrysler still wants to give bonuses to the executives that ran the company into the ground. You shouldn’t be rewarded for failing your stockholders (mainly us). Truthfinder, I guess we were at Eglin about the same time. I was an AMMO troop there from ‘85 to ‘87.

Good and thank you for your service truthfinder.

Yes I served in the military as an enlisted troop and then later was commissioned as an Air Force officer.  Tyndall AFB was my first commissioned assignment and I served reserve duty as a Captain at Eglin AFB.  My last performance report at Eglin was as high as possibly allowed and I was recommended for promotion ahead of my fellow officers.  Send me an email at and I will send you a copy of the report.

When I left Tyndall AFB I was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with citation.

Yes, the right to bear arms is a Constitutional right.

Truthfinder did you serve in the military? Are you saying the right to bear arms is not a Constitutional Right?

Posted by  on  11/17  at  03:24 PM

In Bay County the threat of losing your civil and constitutional rights, particularly with Glenn Hess, Guy Tunnell, Sister Milligan, et al. now in control of the State Attorney’s Office, is a much greater threat than fearing the loss of the right to bear arms.

You folk need to focus on the real threats to our constitutional freedoms and appreciate those who died, served and sacrificed to preserve those rights that many take for granted and are willing to surrender without objection as the Jews who walked into the gas chambers without a last effort fight to survive like sheep to slaughter.  Silence of the lambs to slaughter equates to lamb chops for dinner.

You can’t say we didn’t warn you.

They don’t have to take them away per say, what they will do is make ammunition too expensive for regualr income people to buy or run gun manufactures in the ground with petty lawsuits which they have tried to do in the past. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Also the Brady Bill itself was a direct action to categorize and restrict ownership.  In Florida there hasn’t been as many anti gun actions as California or New York but if those states fold then others will follow.

What I was saying was I don’t think guns are as important an issue with the administrative as maybe it is to others. Sure what was said is all you can base it on. What do you base your opinion on? People are overreacting since why would you run out to buy guns if you truly believed they were going to be taken away? Any President that tried to do that would not be re-elected for sure. I doubt it is as extreme as people against it are lead to believe. What actions are you referring to that the government has done to take your weapons or not allow you to have them? So could a different candidate say we don’t gun control and then change their opinion after they have your vote? I prefer to listen to what they have to say and form my own opinion instead of just repeating what my favorite candidate says.

jday1999, I encourage you and everyone else to not always believe what you hear these politicians say.  The true history of Biden and Obama’s actions and votes in Senate towards the 2nd amendment is that they are against it. Of course everyone is buying up ammo and weapons, last Democratic administration passed the Brady Bill which was was not effective towards anything. Nancy Pelosi is very outspoken against the 2nd Amendment and who knows what she will do with a Democratic dominated government. These people have reason to believe their right will be attacked based on previous ACTIONS by the elected government, all you have is a back pedalling statement by a man who never clarified anything in his campaign to support your statement that people are overreacting.

I actually don’t think that right to bear Arms is very important to the incoming administration. I think they said economy first. Who keeps saying that someone is going to take their guns away? The media! Gun makers and sellers so that people run out and make a mad rush to buy them like people are doing. If I remember correctly I think the only thing ever mentioned about gun control was that and AK-47 wasn’t usually used for hunting.

I keep my .38 next to my pillow.  This AFFIDAVIT shows why:

AFFIDAVIT OF CARRIE BROOKS

On February 2, 2006, I encountered Assistant State Attorney, Brian Kelley and Judge Hess outside of Judge Hess’s office on the third floor of the Bay County Courthouse.  Brian introduced me to Judge Hess and mentioned to Judge Hess that I was employed with John Green’s office that was representing Kevin Wood.  Judge Hess made a couple of comments at this point that I can’t recall what they were.  I said to Judge Hess that everyone is entitled to a defense or something to that effect at which point Judge Hess asked if I wanted to make some extra money.  Brian Kelly said, “I don’t think I need to hear this,” and took a couple of steps away from where we were standing.  Judge Hess then said, “There are a lot of people in Bay County that would like to see Kevin Wood dead.” I can’t recall if he said “would like to see him dead” or “would pay to see him dead”, but it was something to that effect.

Hey Truthfinder if “The Attorney General must be someone absolutely committed to upholding the Constitution.” wonder if he will uphold my Constitutional right to bear Arms?  Oh wait, that is not as important to most liberals as other rights.  If I get hosed on my 2nd Amendment right I will feel a lot less sensitive to others falling by the wayside too.  Has everyone thought of it that way?

Enforcing and respecting civil rights will be a priority under President Obama.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Amy Brundage, 202-228-5511

Washington, DC – Below is a statement of Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) on the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Michael Mukasey as United States Attorney General:

“Judge Mukasey takes the helm at a time when the Justice Department is in desperate need of leadership and good judgment. The Attorney General must be someone absolutely committed to upholding the Constitution. He MUST BE SOMEONE COMMITTED TO PROTECTING CIVIL RIGHTS and RESTRING RESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW, including unequivocally rejecting the use of torture. I urge Judge Mukasey to take his responsibility seriously and never forget that as Attorney General, the American people are counting on him to be the people’s lawyer and not the President’s lawyer.”

I also forgot to mention that the Sundancer manager, Cindy Farr, also made arrangements with another business about a block away to let Sundancer patrons park in their parking lot.  That business was closed at night when the Sundancer was open.  Sundancer security would send patrons to this other parking lot when their parking lot was full and made sure patrons knew not to park on adjacent roads or in the residential neighborhood behind the club.

And lastly, it must be noted that anyone who would buy residential property right next to the Thomas Drive tourist corridor and business district did not make a wise choice to do so when the commercial district preceeded the residential development.  The white neighbors did not complaint about the Key West bar in their neighborhood, the convenience store traffic and noise, other businesses, the noise from the tourist traffic on Thomas Drive.  They only complained when black folk moved in to one business, the Sundancer.

Posted by  on  11/16  at  01:01 PM

Also, the convenience store next door to the Sundancer would close its bathrooms to keep black Sundancer patrons from using them when they came over to buy cigarettes or other items.  The store’s patrons would then go behind the store and use the bathrooms, black and white.  I witnessed two white males from out of state go behind the Sundancer parking lot and pee in front of the neighbors’ yards.  Instead of blaming this on the convenience store, the white neighbors falsely claimed the individuals were Sundancer patrons.  The Sundancer had bathrooms for its patrons and Sundancer patrons had no reason to pee in yards.

I filed a complaint with Code Enforcement (John Wray) against the convenience store for closing its bathrooms to keep black folk out and a letter of warning was sent to them.

We never found any evidence that Sundancer or Key West patrons were parking in someone’s yard or blocking driveways.  The Sheriff never verified any complaint with any evidence.

Yes.  We, the SCLC and NW FL Coalition for Human Rights and Dignity asked questions of neighbors, Sundander managers and patrons, the convenience store right next door to the Sundancer, deputies, and others and made our own observations on several nights.

We found that white patrons of the “white” bar, the Key West, next door were parking in marked no parking zones around Key West and in front of neighbors’ homes.  Sundancer security made sure that their patrons parked only in their parking lot.  I personally observed how patrons of both bars were parking.  A couple Sundancer patrons did park in no parking zones behind Key West, not in front of residences.  On one night a white tow truck owner towed a vehicle behind Key West belonging to a black Sundancer patron but didn’t touch the cars of white patrons of Key West.  The tow truck owner was a lead figure in the white effort to close the Sundancer.

I seem to recall that some of the problems were people from the club parking in their yards, blocking their driveways and using their front yards to relieve themselves.
Have you ever talked to any of the neighbors about this? Then you would truly be a real truthfinder…

Posted by  on  11/13  at  11:44 PM

The complaint was made by a white female who with other white neighbors continued to file false noise complaints against the club.  Code Enforcement, John Wray, could not ever verify any noise violations.  Guy Tunnell and the Sheriff’s Office could never verify any violations against the club.  A white club, the Key West, right next door to the Sundancer left its doors open and music blared into the neighborhood.  A conveience stored next door to the Sundancer let their customers blare their car radios while gassing up or shopping but did not tell them to turn them down.  I have stood behind the Sundancer not being able to hear anything from the Sundancer but could hear the music from the white Key West bar.  I could hear music blaring from the convenience store.  The Sundancer and Kew West were directly on the commercial Thomas drive tourist corridor and the music and noise from tourist traffic far exceeded any sounds eminated from the Sundancer.  Yes it was a race issue.

Posted by  on  11/13  at  04:48 PM

Was the noise complaint made by a “white” neighbor for that moment or a complaint about a previous night. I have called and complained about circumstance after the fact as asked what can be done to deter them from reoccuring(and or BCSO are not the quickest responders). But you did not answer, how is it different than the complaints about Buck Wild which was not racially motivated.  From what I recall, it was not about a black business, it was about the lack of respect to the adjacent homeowners. This occurs with most clubs that are adjacent to homeowners.  Without much thought, there have been issues with Spinaker, La Vela, Buck Wild. Are these racially motivated? I am not saying racism does not happen and maybe some of the incidents were not right, but they have happened at other locations.
The sundancer was attacked due to its location. If surrounded by other commercial locaitons instead of residences, the story may have been different.

TO: quad

County offials NEVER verified any noise complaints against the Sundancer business.  Guy Tunnell and the Sheriff’s Office NEVER verified any complaints of any kind against the Sundancer.

I communicated directly with John Wray of Bay County Code Enforcement who refused to find a noise violation against the Sundancer despite political pressure to do so.  He was an honorable public servant.

Two black deputies under Tunnell, Joe Smiley and Myron Guilford, were on site at the Sundancer when they received a noise complaint from white neighbors.  The Sundancer was CLOSED at the time!

I filed a public records request with Becky Johns, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, asking for all records where complaints were substantiated against the Sundancer by Tunnell and his office.  On 3NOV03 Ms. Johns responded,

“In reference to your Public Records Request dated Oct 10, 2003, The records you requested were not found.”

The Sundancer was harrassed/attacked based on race!

Now that Glenn Hess has replaced Steve Meadows in the last election, Guy Tunnell and his family, as major contributors, are directly or indirectly back into the State Attorney’s Office.  We should be afraid.  We should be very afraid.  African American/black citizens should be terrified.

Posted by  on  11/13  at  08:43 AM

After Tunnell was handpicked for the position of Commissioner of FDLE, and the Chairman of the MATRIX citizen spying program, by Jeb and George Bush, Tunnell again abused his powers to pursue a racist agenda by sending his armed FDLE thugs into the homes of elderly black folk on a bogus investigation of voter fraud in the 2004 election of George Bush.  Elderly black folk declined to vote absentee for fear of being subjected to a criminal investigation by Tunnell and FDLE.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9801E1D71F3FF933A1575BC0A9629C8B63

Tunnell then tried to cover up the videotape of the assault and battery of Martin Lee Anderson.  He then compared President Elect Obama to Osama Bin Laden and the Rev. Jesse Jackson to outlaw Jesse James.

Tunnell’s racist history even led Governor Jeb Bush to accept his resignation.

He then went to work for the State Attorney, Steve Meadows, in Bay County.  Meadows also eventually accepted Tunnell’s resignation.

Get it?

Posted by  on  11/13  at  08:40 AM

Also, Guy Tunnell authorized eighteen (18) of his deputies to attack the black Sundancer Business on 1JAN98 to appease white neighbors who didn’t want a black business in their neighborhood.

So I guess the owner of Buck Wild was black and that caused the issues when the neighbors had the county harrass them. NO, it was due to the lack of respect by the patrons to the homeowners surrounding the club and the noise generated by the club.  Stop playing the race card.  Issues happen to both blacks and whites. It is just if it happens to a black, everyone starts screaming it racist! OMFG, I am tired of hearing it.

Do you honestly think the bootcamp issue would have been blown out of proportion if it was a white young adult.
