Enrollment is up at Chipola College in Jackson County.
Officials at the college say enrollment is up about 5% from last year.
The college is the third smallest in the state at just over 5,000 students.
Administrators credit the growth to new programs and terms. The college has added several new bachelor’s degree programs and this year they’ve added two new terms for each semester.
They have also already processed about 3,900 financial aid applications for this semester alone; only about 300 less than the total for the entire year last year.
Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Chipola, Dr. Sarah Clemmons, says the increase in students has allowed them to add additional jobs as well.
“We have hired some additional adjuncts and we have hired a new couple of positions with our bachelor’s degree programs that we’ve added,” Dr. Clemmons says, “We’re looking forward to seeing those grow because more and more people are finding out about them.”
The college has also added online assets. Students can now register for classes and pay fees and tuition online, and they’ve even added several online classes, which Dr. Clemmons believes has also helped enrollment numbers.
