Panama City, Fla:
Changes are coming to Panama City’s Comprehensive Plan. City Commissioners voted Tuesday evening to approve planning board recommendations that set the standards for development for years to come.
At a marathon meeting, some big differences between staff recommendations and planning board recommendations were hotly debated. Mayor Scott Clemons and Commissioner Nancy Wengel were passionate about one issue in particular.
A staff recommendation to do away with zoning category “residential vested” would’ve also done away with the possible development of 150-foot condos. But, a 3-2 vote gave way to the planning board’s recommendation, which did change some zoning to make allowance for more residents, but also kept “residential vested,” and possible high-rise developments.
“To me that just doesn’t sit well with me and I don’t think it sits well with the rest of our citizens and it’s out of character with the rest of our community,” said Clemons.
