As Panama City Beach fills up with Spring Breakers, some may start spilling over to the downtown side of the bay. At least that’s the hope of motel owners like Kristin Moulder. She’s the manager of the Buccaneer Motel in Panama City.
“I think that a lot of college students, with the way the economy is, they can’t afford to stay out at the beach,” Moulder said.
She said her bookings have been up since last year, and she’s expecting no vacancies in the coming weeks.
Ashley Donlin arrived in Panama City Friday with ten friends from Michigan. She said she had no problem with the motel being mostly empty.
“It’s a lot calmer and quiet here, and we like the quietness,” Donlin said.
“Then we can get over there [to the beach] for the nightlife, so we have our own little reserve spot here [in town.]”
But the other half of Donlin’s party chose to stay at the beach. She said they would regret paying twice as much for half the space. No such regret has yet shown up.
“Oh I’d [rather] be on the beach, definitely,” Mark Soisson said.
“I don’t even care if you spend extra money you know, it’s worth more, you have a better time.”
