Panama City, Fla:

A Panama City conference on small business resources left a congressman facing dozens of protestors, but they lined the road today for a completely unrelated reason.

A full out protest happened, all because people don’t approve of the way Congressman Allen Boyd is voting, especially for the American Clean Energy and Security Act.  This bill is 1,200 pages outlining requirements for power companies to use renewable energy and conserve more as well as giving caps for carbon emissions.

But the bill faces strong opposition from some Panhandle residents.  More than 100 people spent their lunch hour protesting against Congressman Allen Boyd

“Our congress is ruining our country for our grandchildren,” said protester Glenn Leirer

Boyd voted for the American Clean Energy and Security Act last Friday.

“We’re here to say we don’t need all this regulation, we don’t need all these taxes,” said protester and organizer Burnie Thompson.

But it seems to be about even more than that.

“I’m frustrated that our representation doesn’t care about our interests. They care more about democrats in Washington than people in the Panhandle,” said protester Tho Bishop.

The Congressman says he heard protestors loud and clear, but now is the time to reduce our dependency on foreign energy.

“We don’t have a choice; we have to have a comprehensive, better energy policy.  Or we won’t be the economic leader of the world,” said Congressman Allen Boyd, a Democrat of Florida.

Critics are saying the energy costs are not what people need in this economy.  But Boyd says there is a lot of misinformation out there.

“It bothers me that there are people out there saying this is going to increase a family’s power cost by $3000 dollars that’s just not the case.”  It’s more in the line of $150 a year,” Boyd said.

When asked if the congressman had read the bill, he said he has not personally read the entire thing, but that his staff has.  Congressman Boyd also says this is more aimed at utility companies than personal houses and cars.

This is the biggest environmental bill in decades.  It still needs approval by the Senate and President Obama to become law.

you cannot expect a senator or congressman to actually read a 1200 page anything,,,they lack the ability to get past their own checkbook statrments,,,which is what controls their opinion or vote on any isssue or legislation,,,the differenc between america and every other country in the world is the simple fact that government scares us ,,,,we don’t scare it,,,,think about it

The Congressional Budget Office estimates this bill at an average cost of $175 annual. The lowest 20% gain $40 and the lowest 40% at $0 to costs of $40.

Representative Boyd understands we need to reassess how we consume and generate our energy in this country and that we need to figure out how we can sell it to the rest of the world. Kudos to Congressman Boyd for this vote and for his understanding our need for long term solutions.

It is certainly better than the average increase of $1200 per household we saw under the Bush administration.

I say it is time to put Mr. Boyd out to pasture.  Let him go back home to work for some of the millions he has accepted in farm subsidies.

Both Allen Boyd and Bill Nelson need to be voted out.  Neither one will do anything to stop the fascist Democratic agenda and the Obamanation.

You all are being sold out by EVERY politician in the state and the US Capitol on EVERY issue that is important to the MAJORITY of citizens because ALL politicians, once elected go immediatley to work for BIG BUSINESS,BIG INSURANCE, POLITICAL PACTS,AND SELF INTERESTS! Don’t you get it? This is where their payola comes from to keep re-electing them. Campaign Fund? Does that ring a bell? U Who, are you listening?
Throw all incumbents in every elected office out on every election over and over again until they figure out that they work for the MAJORITY of citizens, not for these special interests! That is the only weapon you have is your vote! Get it!
You have absolutely zero power against these crooks unless you all vote these bums out! Do not bother to even sort who is who, just vote all incumbents out every time, every election! They might wake up!
You are being ripped off daily by all of them! They all want your MONEY!!! Do not give one dime to organized rip off charities or them

I support the protesters 100%.  Congressman Allen Boyd speaks of knowing this Cap & Trade Bill thouroghly.  Then I believe he is a trader to the people he represents.  He voted with the Democratics and would not take a stand against this issue which is going to have a life changing effect on the everyday Joe and Jane citizen of Bay County.  I will do everything I can to see that he is voted out of his job.
Congressman Boyd’s reputation shows that he does not care about the common citizen.
Why he can’t see that the global warming issue has been showed to have just as many scientists against this issue with facts to prove the obama bill to be false.  I cannot understand how the congressman can hold his head up, shame on him.

I also believe that wmbb news 13 could have been more diligent in talking about the important issues rather than focusing on the death of a singer for three or four days.
