Jackson County, Fla:
Malone town council member Randy Ward was fired from his position as a special education instructor at Apalachee Correctional Institution Tuesday, according to a Department of Corrections representative.
Ward was arrested on methamphetamine-related charges Friday by investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force.
A regular meeting of the Malone Town Council was held Tuesday evening, but no one representing the town returned calls Tuesday or Wednesday regarding the status of Ward’s seat on the council.
“Randall Ward was fired yesterday. The termination was because of recent charges against him,” Florida Department of Corrections public information director Gretl Plessinger said Wednesday.
Ward was released from the Jackson County Correctional Facility on a $3,000 bond Sunday, according to jail records.
As of Wednesday, the State Attorney’s Office had not filed any court dates in the case.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Highway 73 South in Marianna, identifying Ward as the driver of the vehicle.
A narcotics detection canine was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics being emitted from the driver’s door of the vehicle, a report from the sheriff’s office said.
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a box of pseudoephedrine cold pills and three bottles of iodine tincture, a small amount of methamphetamine and a straw used to ingest methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office report said.
Ward was charged with possession of listed chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He has served on the Malone town council since 2005. In the 2005 election, Ward collected the highest number of votes in the council election, garnering 94 votes.
He has also served as a coach to the Hope School Falcons, and Malone baseball and basketball teams.
What a shame - LOL! Maybe the DOC needs to build more prisons for the increase of Correctinal Officers gone “bad”! Another one bites the dust!!! :-)

This only proves again that a lot of people from various ethnic, social and economic backgrounds need help. How many times have we heard in the news media about people who have done positive things in the community only to discover that they have a drug and/or alcohol addiction that has gone undetected and untreated? Wake up leaders and those who are decision makers. This epidemic reaches into every class structure and can affect and infect anyone. The days of the lone town drunk are gone. Grandma’s on the loose now and she’s packing a stash of pills. Watch for the warning signs. Help her before it’s too late!
