The broadcast of a security video released to the media yesterday has resulted in the arrest by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office of a local man for cashing counterfeit payroll checks.
Numerous tips received from the community after viewing the security video led BCSO investigators to arrest Clinton Davis, Junior, DOB 4/16/62, of 5232 Stewart Drive, Panama City.
Investigators believe it is Davis that appears in the security video as he makes a second attempt to cash a counterfeit payroll check at Big Bucks in Southport on November 1, 2008. Davis had been in the store previously on October 29, 2008, and cashed a counterfeit check. Once the manager realized the check was counterfeit he posted pictures lifted from security video to warn employees of Davis. When Davis returned to the store in November, the clerk recognized him and began to chastise Davis, telling him he was being filmed on a security camera. It was at that point a startled Davis looked directly into the camera.
Davis was charged with two counts of Uttering a Counterfeit Check, Petit Theft, and Felony Violation of his Probation. Davis was on probation for Possession of Controlled Substance and Depositing a Check With Intent to Commit Fraud.
The investigation continues and additional charges are anticipated.
