We’re all familiar with Amber Alers when children are missing, or Silver Alerts when an elderly person walks away from their nursing home. Now there’s another tool in the aresenal to help law enforcement find missing people.

It is a free program now in use by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. It’s called “A Child is Missing”. It is designed to localize the search for a missing child or adult.  Rob Fortner is the Communications Manager for the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. He says the program has been around since 1997 and is based in Ft. Lauderdale. “It is targeted for smaller children who get away, says Fortner, find out the last place seen so we can canvass quickly”.

The non profit organization is free to any county that wants to use it, it is funded through state and federal grants as well as corporate donations. You can access the web site with this link www.achildismissing.org
