Bay County, Fla:
The Panama City Police Department is at the scene of a death investigation at the Valu-Lodge at 4810 West Highway 98.
Police say the body of a young teenage girl was found in room 140 by cleaning staff this morning. A man who rented the room checked out this morning. Police are interviewing him now. Multiple officers are on scene collecting evidence and conducting interviews.
This is the same hotel that Melinda Denise Hinson, 13, was reported missing from on Tuesday. Investigators are talking to her family at the police station now.
The Panama City Police Department sent out a news release on her disappearance early Thursday morning. They say their two-day investigation led to several places, including some addresses on Panama City Beach, contacts at the motel and this morning to the room where a body was discovered.
Capt. Robert Colbert says they are still processing the scene and can’t confirm if the body they found is Melinda. They hope to make an identification this afternoon.
Police are not sure how the young girl found in the motel room died. They are working with the medical examiner’s office to determine a cause of death. There are also no suspects at this time.
Wednesday Melinda’s mother and mother’s boyfriend hung fliers around town asking for assistance from the public in finding her.
