Callaway, Fla:
A Bay County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being dragged by a car, and the driver of that car is now behind bars.
Authorities say they got a call from 931 Georgia Avenue in Callaway around 11:00 p.m. Friday.
The sheriff’s office says Michael John Pace, 38, broke into his ex-wife’s house. When the woman returned home, Pace tried to attack her, but she was able to get away and call 911.
Authorities arrived as Pace was trying to drive away. Officials say a deputy ordered Pace to turn off his car several times, and he refused.
When the deputy reached in to turn off the car, Pace drove off, dragging the deputy about 130 yards.
The deputy had only minor injuries but went to the hospital as a precaution.
Pace was eventually caught and faces multiple charges, including burglary of an occupied dwelling and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
