A Holmes County Deputy is shot while chasing after a suspect.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office it began Friday night when Sgt. Michael Raley pulled over a suspicious truck with a lawnmower in the back. The driver, Matthew Olin Bryan, 35 of DeFuniak Springs, showed his license then sped off.
When Sgt. Raley chased after him, Bryan shot at the officer’s car with a 12 gauge shotgun. The shells struck the patrol car’s hood, pierced the windshield and hit Sgt. Raley in the head. Sgt. Raley’s injuries were not life threatening. He was treated and released from Doctor’s Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.
Walton County Deputies caught up with Bryan down the road, but he ditched the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Holmes and Walton County authorities eventually found Bryan in a nearby residence. He was reportedly arrested without incident.
Bryan is in Walton County Jail, but will be transferred to Holmes County. He faces charges of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and fleeing and eluding a Law Enforcement Officer.
