Bay County, Fla:
Fays fake-out leaves a black eye on many beach businesses.
Management at the Bikini Beach Resort says the hotel is at 5% occupancy with seven cancellations in one day. Over at the Chateau Hotel on Panama City Beach, managers blame 15 cancellations on the storm. Guests reportedly began cancelling or rescheduling 3 or 4 days before the storm made landfall. Managers says business is down 40% from this time last year.
“we’ve been getting calls all day about whether or not there’s been flooding, there’s tornadoes, actually there was calls about whether or not there’s tornadoes and what the situation is going to be like next weekend. As you can see by the parking lot, this weekend is pretty much one of the worst weekends we’ve had in a while,” says Chateau Assistant Office Manager, Matt Cohnour.
Cohnour hopes business picks back up next weekend. The labor day holiday is typically the last big economic boost before the slower season.
