The Fourth of July in Panama City Beach follows only spring break in the number of traffic accidents. The Florida Highway Patrol plans to crack down on crazy drivers this weekend in a new statewide campaign.
The Florida Highway Patrol is planning to set up DUI checkpoints and use marked and unmarked vehicles to nail speeders. This is all a part of a 72-hour campaign that begins today.
Lots of people that are injured and killed just because they don’t wear seatbelts. And for this weekend the Florida Highway Patrol is cracking down on wreckless driving including drunk driving and riding without seatbelts. The Fourth of July in Panama City and Panama City Beach is always crazy.
Starting this evening and ending Sunday afternoon the number of crashes will pick up steadily, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon when everybody’s leaving town will be the busiest time for us.
Obviously DUI’s are a serious offense. The FHP will be sending out roving teams to check for drunk drivers. You will be arrested if you’re found driving over the influence. If you’re found guilty in court, your fines will be at a minimum 500 dollars. Your license will also be suspended and your vehicle could be immobilized.
Most hotels are booked and that means traffic, lots of traffic.
There’ll be heavy traffic. If everybody’s just patient and keep a safe following distance. The beach’ll still be there even if it takes you fifteen minutes longer. Just drive safe and slow.
The FHP’s 72 hour C.A.R.E is aimed at trying to reduce the number of accidents on the road. The FHP is bringing all available personnel and reserve troopers to help out with the initiative for the holiday weekend.
The speeding coming into town and leaving out at the end and then drinking and driving during the nighttime hours of the holiday weekend.
If you see a crazy driver and want to report them to the Florida Highway Patrol or you just need some roadside assistance, all you have to do is dial *347 from your cell phone.

It time to enforce the new seat belts, so the state can make some money, and why do they wait for a holiday to get out and enforce the other law, they should be doing that all year long. There is no law for being crazy and driving.
