The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Board of Directors, and Emergency Management Staff have been closely monitoring the situation along the Choctawhatchee River. The National Weather Service has advised that rains moving into our area now and through tomorrow morning could total 5 – 7 inches. This is of extreme concern to Washington County officials.
At this time we strongly urge all residents along the river, from Caryville to Ebro, to take necessary protective measures. It is of utmost importance that action be taken immediately to protect life and property.
An Emergency Shelter will be opened tomorrow morning at 10AM at the Vernon Community Center located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive Bldg. 4 or the Old Vernon High School Cafeteria. Anyone seeking shelter before 10AM tomorrow, April 1, can report to the New Hope Community Center in Holmes County located at 1243 Hwy 179A near the intersection of Hwy 2 & 179A. Washington County appreciates our neighbors in Holmes County for assisting us during this Local State of Emergency.
If you have questions, please contact the Emergency Management Office at 850-638-6203 or the Washington County Sheriff’s Office 850-638-6111.
