Tallahassee, Fla:
With Election Day closing in fast, a lot of polls show the race in Florida is close but Democrat Barack Obama slightly leads Republican John McCain.
That’s fueling speculation that McCain could have helped assure victory in Florida if he had picked Governor Charlie Crist as his running mate instead of Sarah Palin.
Former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge is saying as much about the race in Pennsylvania, where polls show McCain is trailing by double digits.
Ridge says he thinks the dynamics would be different there if he were on the ticket with McCain.
Governor Crist was asked if McCain would run stronger in Florida if he had chosen Crist instead of Sarah Palin.
Crist brushed off that suggestion and said McCain can win Florida without him.
The latest poll from the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute taken a week ago indicates Obama leads McCain in Florida 49 to 44 percent.
