Tallahassee, Fla:
Florida tourism officials are moving to use one of the state’s most marketable assets, its sunshine, to protect its valuable tourism industry from dark economic times.
The state’s marketing agency Visit Florida plans to adjust its advertising campaign for the coming winter tourism season to reflect the realities of a struggling economy.
Visit Florida Chief Marketing Officer Will Seccombe says the ads will highlight Florida’s attractions and sunshine as a safe choice for a good time, even if people have traveled to the state previously.
He says marketing Florida as a reliable value, where you get a big bang for your buck, will be a key part of the advertising campaign.
Walt Disney Company is leading the way with that strategy. Disney is offering discounts because its hotel bookings are down for 2009. Now the company is bringing back a deal it offered five years ago: seven nights for the price of four.
Seccombe calls that a smart strategy in a challenging economy and he thinks it will pave the way for discounts throughout Florida’s tourism industry.
Florida is spending 35 million dollars on advertising for its tourism industry this year. Seccombe says Florida’s winter ad campaign will feature ten travel experts, such as a beach expert or family vacation expert, who write blogs about attractions that are sometimes off the beaten path.
He says Florida offers a powerful advertising message with its focus on sun, fun and family.
