Florida’s 2.6 million Medicaid recipients can now access their personal health records online and the state assures those patients that their personal information is safe on the Internet.
Florida becomes the first state to offer online health records for Medicaid clients. It’s called My Florida Health eBook and My Florida eBaby Book.
Patients are able to log on using their Medicaid ID number and see detailed information about their medications, vaccinations, past illnesses and doctor visits.
The Web site also allows people to track their family medical history or chart their personal health information such as blood pressure.
The leader of Florida’s Agency for Healthcare Administration says the online information should empower people by helping them better manage their own health.
Holly Benson says her agency has taken steps to make sure the sensitive information is safe online.
“We worked very hard to make it secure. I wouldn’t want to deliver something like this without protections in place,” Benson said.
“There’s a logon screen and you have to go with your Medicaid ID and that’s why we limited it to the Medicaid folks.”
“I think this will be a huge assistance in the relationship between families and providers and that’s really what it’s all about is the mom being an advocate for her child, understanding how to be an advocate and working as a team with the medical provider,” Ann Davis of the Healthy Start Coalition said.
The new state Web site is made possible through a partnership with three private companies: Availity, HealthTrio and Healthwise.
Ann Davis of the Healthy Start Coalition praises the effort, saying it will help moms be stronger advocates for their children’s health care needs.
