The Bay County Sheriff’s Dept is trying to make the County a little safer. Officers at the Southport Crime Prevention Office were giving out cable locks to gun owners.

The locks keep children from firing if they accidentally get a hold of a weapon. Deputy Tim Bowen says they had given out more than 120 gun locks last week. Dozens were given out for free again today. If you were unable to get a cable lock, the Sheriff’s Office will be giving them out on the next three Thursdays.

The locations for gun lock giveaways are at the old Cedar Grove Police Deptartment and the Callaway and Fountain Crime Prevention Offices.
