Bonifay, Fla:
On 6/4/09 at approx. 12:30 a.m. Dep. Jeremy French attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations on Oklahoma St. in Bonifay.
The vehicle accelerated and refused to stop traveling down several streets within the city limits. The vehicle turned onto SR 79 and traveled south into Washington County at speeds in excess on 110 mph. They continued to Vernon where the vehicle turned east onto CR 277 in Washington County and proceeded back towards Chipley.
A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to block the road causing the vehicle to stop on the shoulder of the road where the driver who was identified as Buddy Bowland Powell, 25, was taken into custody along with a passenger who was identified as Zachary Andrews, 20.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana. Powell faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, willful and wanton reckless driving, driving while license suspended or revoked, and possession of marijuana -20 grams. Andrews was charged with possession of marijuana -20 grams. Sheriff Brown would like to thank the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in a safe apprehension of the suspects.

I’d rather see you get their tag and let them go. You could have found them later. I have two sons driving in Vernon. I don’t want to see them come in contact with this person at 110mph attempting to elude police. Bad judgement call in my opinion. Lucky noone was injured.
