Panama City, Fla:
The holiday spirit sweeps the streets of Panama City.
Downtown Harrison Avenue welcomes you “Home for the Holidays” with Santa’s cheery cheeks, decorative store fronts and whimsical festoons that line the lamp posts.
“We have a good time people are in a better mood they’re in a better spirit,” said restaurant owner, Robert Wright.
To celebrate the season, Mom and Pop Merchants help transform the city into a winter wonderland for the seventh year in a row.
Every Friday from 5 to 8, they plan to keep their doors open as carriage rides, carolers and the Clauses pass by.
“Carolers come in and start singing Christmas carols and it kind of gives you a little tingle like wow this is really cool,” said Wright.
You can experience the charm of the city and help stimulate the local economy. This is the time of year when businesses hope for a boom. While many people spent money at corporate stores this black Friday, it’s hoped that others purchase unique hometown gifts.
“This is their opportunity to make up for what some would say has been a sluggish economy,” said Christine Walker, main street coordinator
With nearly 500 people that are expected pass through every week… It shouldn’t be hard.
“We’re hoping to get new people down and just see what the downtown is about,” said store owner, Lisa Hanna.
Regardless of cash spent, the holiday cheer comes free of charge.
