The Gulf Coast Medical Center held an open house in honor of “Operating Room Nurses Week.”
About 100 people of all ages got a hands on look at different surgical equipment. Even some local physicians got into the fun, using labroscopic equipment to unwrap a Hershey Kiss stashed inside the model.
“It’s eye opening for the children,” says Registered Nurse Cathy McDonald. “It gives families a chance to come see what we do every day. It also lets the community come in and see, if they’re going to have surgery, they can talk to the staff and see how competent our staff is and how knowledgeable they are.” McDonald says the open house was a success and hopes to make it an annual event.
