When you buy an American flag, do you check the label? Many residents in Panama City will not buy a flag, if it wasn’t made in the U.S.A.
The American flag blows in the breeze, as Robert Anthony rides down the streets of Panama City. He’s retired military, and to him the flag means more than just holiday decoration.
“This flag is our country,” said Anthony.
Anthony’s flags were made in the U.S.A.
“I think it’s important that we make these flags in our country and that they’re our flags,” said Anthony.
In 2008, $3 million worth of American flags were imported from China. But on a search in Panama City today, only one store sold flags made in China.
“Everything else is going out. We need to at least keep our flags here in the United States where they belong,” said Jennifer Rodgers, Panama City resident.
The flags in Panama City’s Target, Wal-Mart, and Michaels…were all made in the U.S.
“I think we should use American people to make these flags. I think we should use American cloth to make these flags,” said Larry Webb, Panama City resident.
So if you still want to buy a flag before the fourth, you may want take Robert Anthony’s advice and check the label.
It’s not just important to Panama City residents, it’s important to people across the country.
In Minnesota and Tennessee, there are laws that prohibit the sale of foreign-made American flags.
