The Jackson County Commission met today to discuss a number of county issues. They approved contracts for new road paving and discussed new park fees before the start of the tourism season.
One ongoing issue are the negotiations between Jackson Hospital and the county’s EMS services. The hospital has a contract with a private Dothan-based ambulance service for non-emergency transports. The commission wants the hospital to work with County EMS as well. They rejected a proposed contract from the hospital, but Chairman Jeremy Branch said an agreement is on the way.
“I think we’re very close,” Branch said.
“To establishing a good working contract, that will be both agreeable to Jackson Hospital, and to the citizens of Jackson County.”
The Commission also recognized several employees for their years of service to the community. Ramon Dickens has been with road and bridge for 25 years, Doug Mayo at the Agricultural extension service for 10. John Turner has been at Veteran’s Services, Edna Hatcher at the library, and Kenneth Deese at Fire & Rescue each for five years. Harold Melvin was recognized as the employee of the month.
