The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says that a lab has confirmed that a white substance found on the courthouse steps Thursday morning was not dangerous.
The courthouse was evacuated Thursday morning until after lunch.
Authorities say a deputy getting ready to open the courthouse found a bible sitting on top of an American Flag at the front steps. When he moved the bible a suspicious white powder was lying underneath.
A hazmat team from Bay County assisted with collecting the powder for testing purposes. Five people were quarantined until the a field test of the substance indicated it was not dangerous.
