Man Charged with Aggravated Battery With a Motor Vehicle

Officers from the Marianna Police Department responded to the Grocery Outlet on Lafayette St. in reference to a child custody complaint. Upon arrival it was found that the father of the child, Greggory Jerome Basford, had fled the scene with the child.

When Basford fled the scene he struck a person with his vehicle and fled the scene as the mother of the child climbed in the back of the truck trying to retrieve the child. When Basford reached the bowling alley on Hwy 90 Basford stopped the vehicle and forcibly threw the childs mother out of the vehicle.  Basford was stopped and taken into custody on Old Spanish Trail by the Jackson County Sherrifs Department and is awaiting first appearance at the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
