Marianna, Fla:
Around or about 06-15-2009 the Marianna Police department received numerous reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles in an area of a residential neighborhood north of Lafayette St. Specifically, the square area defined as the residences that are south of Kelson Ave., north of Lafayette St., west of Jefferson St and east of Guyton St.
Since those initial reports of vehicle burglary began coming in, the Marianna Police Department’s investigation lead to the identification of the male juvenile responsible for the thefts here in the City of Marianna as well as similar thefts in the Panama City Beach area. Charges in these cases are pending in both jurisdictions. The reason for the delay in filing charges is simple. During the course of this investigation this agency was able to recover a majority of the personal property taken during both the thieving spree here in Mariana and the thieving spree in Bay County.
We find ourselves in possession of much more personal property than we have victims who reported the initial burglaries. We were able to roughly sort which property was stolen here in Marianna from that which was stolen in Bay County. The majority of the stolen items are electronic devices and accessories. Our conclusion for the low number of reported vehicle burglaries is that most of the victim’s do not know that they are victim’s, and perhaps have not yet noticed their property is missing or have assumed that they have misplaced their property.
Therefore, the Marianna Police Department is asking that resident’s who live in the above described boundaries, who may have left their vehicles unlocked on or about the 06-15-2009, to please check their vehicles for missing property. If something is missing please contact the Marianna Police Department with a description of the property, and proof of ownership i.e.; Serial #, purchase receipt, or owner applied markings. Three victim’s have been identified via initial report, more have been identified by location with the assistance of the suspect. Those victims will be notified presently. However, the suspect could not clearly remember what property items he took from the estimated twelve to thirteen vehicles he entered.
Lastly, the Marianna Police Department’s rapid and successful conclusion to these cases was in large part due to the open lines of communication and the dedicated assistance of concerned friends, parents, citizens, clergy, the State Attorney Office and the Jackson County Sheriffs Office.
