The Sonic drive-in restaurant on Lafayette Street in Marianna was shut down temporarily Thursday for violations cited by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
The dining establishment was re-opened Friday, after correcting the violations, according to DBPR press secretary Alexis Antonnaci.
Nine violations were cited, ranging in topic from roaches to the accumulation of grease on the floor, according to a DBPR inspection report.
The inspection was performed on Wednesday, said Antonacci.
The following is narrative from the inspection report:
• Critical. Observed improper use of bowl/plastic food container or other container with no handle used to dispense ready-to-eat sugar.
• Critical. Observed bare hand contact of banana by employees and establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure in effect.
• Critical. Observed employee switch from working with phone to ready-to-eat banana without washing hands.
• Critical. Hot water not provided/shut off at employee hand wash sink in front of establishment.
• Critical. Observed 3 dead roaches on premises by 3 compartment sink.
• Critical. Observed roach activity as evidenced by 25 live roaches found around and in banana box on top of safe by sundae make table. Observed 1 live roach by handsink in rear of kitchen, 5 live behind shelving by icemachine, 20 live small roaches behind shelving where soda syrup is stored. Observed 2 live roaches behind waterheater near three compartment sink. This violation must be corrected by : 10-11-08.
• Floors not maintained smooth and durable. Floor covering peeling from surface, causing pockets to form and grease to puddle.
• Observed grease accumulated on kitchen floor under equipment.
• Light not functioning in walkin cooler.
