Lynn Haven, Fla:
In order to get as many people registered for to vote in the November 4th, the Bay County Supervisor of Elections office stayed open until midnight on Monday hosting what they called Midnight Happiness. Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen says they always see an increase in voter registration in the days leading up to the cut off, but this year it’s like nothing he’s ever seen.
“Hundreds have been coming in to register, which is a great story. The real question is where have they been? I’m glad they’re taking this last effort,” Andersen said.
Many voters believe the historic implications of this election explains why so many people want to make sure they can vote in November.
“The difficult part will be tomorrow when someone else comes in and we’re not able to register them for this election because the books will close,” Andersen continued.
Bay County had 72% voter turnout for the 2004 presidential election, numbers that are much higher than the State and National averages. Andersen says he wants Bay County to set a State record this year, but that can only happen if everyone who is registered heads to the polls on November 4th.
