Okaloosa County, Fla:
Tomorrow Governor Crist will sign a piece of legislation that establishes a new council. The Florida Council on Military Base and Mission Support will advocate for Florida’s twenty-one military bases all around the state.
The military accounts for a 53 billion dollar impact on the state of Florida, that’s the thirteen counties that have military installations contribute that much to our economy. Locally we contribute about 1.3 billion dollars.
Senator Don Gaetz authored the bill and says that with a liberal presidential administration he and many others want to take special measures to ensure that military missions and bases throughout Florida are protected.
It’s important to make sure that the military bases in Florida are preserved and protected. We have twenty one military bases in the state of florida, five of them are in northwest Florida and they bring in sixty billion dollars a year to our state in economic impact. The military and the associated industries really account for the third largest economic driver in our state.
The bill establishes the Florida Council on Military Base and Mission Support. All nine members will be unpaid and will fight to support and strengthen military missions all around the state of Florida.
Governor Crist will sign the bill tomorrow at Eglin Air Force Base at 1:30 p.m.
