Panama City, Fla:

Some Millville residents are scratching their heads over the color of their drinking water.  They say they have called city offices trying to get information, but have been unable to learn much.  So, they contacted News 13 in hopes their problem could be solved.

It all started about a month ago when Millville resident Joyce Grant says she noticed something different about her water.  Joyce says, “it will get a little clearer then worse…there is a lot of water going thru my washing machine that is not washing clothes…I run it…it is rusty ...I let it go out.”  Joyce says she made some phone calls.  “I called the water dept and the young lady told me it must be my lines cause I was the only one who called. I spoke with other people who called that the young lady told them it must be their lines because they were the only one who called. That’s what frustrates me.  I have left messages for the mayor, all city commissioners, city manager and head of water dept to call me and my phone has not rung yet.”

Tammy Huntsman, another Millville resident, says it is the same situation at her house.  She took these pictures of dark water drawn in her bathtub in the last few days and also wants to what is causing the very unsightly water to run thru her lines.  So, what is the reason and when will it end?
I checked it out and according to Panama City Utilities, tests on a brand new ground storage water tank is the likely source of the discolored water.
The two million gallon facility is located at Sherman Avenue and Sixth Street.
Ron Morgan, director of Panama City Utilities, tells me that the new tank was built to ease the burden on the city water system.  It has been undergoing various tests within the past month.  Morgan says the water is okay to use… chlorine disinfection levels are normal.  The tank will serve Millville, downtown, the Cove and the area near the mall.

Ron Morgan says performance testing should be over and residents should see that rusty looking water going away soon.  The new water tank will become fully operational in about two weeks.
