Panama City, Fla:
A missing pet could lead to a felony.
The dog’s owner believes the pup is stolen and that makes it a possible criminal investigation. If there’s a motive to steal it’s against the law. That’s why the Panama City Police Department asked us to put the word out.
The loss of a pet can feel like a loss in the family. With a dog on the loose, Ashley Lovejoy understands the pain.
“Oh goodness. It’s almost hard to put into words,” said Lovejoy.
Lily, her five pound, silver backed, Yorkshire Terrier is gone. She believes the pooch was possibly stolen.
“I know it sounds silly, she’s a dog. But, you know she’s been a part of my life for seven years and it’s hard to not know where she is,” said Lovejoy.
According to Lovejoy, Lily slipped out onto Grace Avenue on Monday. She thinks that’s where a woman picked her up and drove away with the Terrier in tow.
“There were some furniture delivery people that saw her pick up the dog,” said Lovejoy.
In her own effort to find Lily, she posted flyers near the intersection where the dog disappeared. After nearly a week of no phone calls, she contacted the police.
“If the intent of the person is to steal the dog and to keep it from it’s rightful owner, then yes, it is a felony in this case,” said Panama City Police spokesperson, Sgt. Jeff Becker.
The purebred pup comes with a price-tag of 1,200. But for Lovejoy, the loss of Lily isn’t about the money.
“I’m her person, and she is my dog. To have her back here, I guess my world would be right again,” said Lovejoy.
If you have any information about the dog you can contact the Panama City Police Department at 872-3112.
For the person that finds Lily, Lovejoy is offering a reward of $500.
