Panama City, Fla:
A Panama City family is thankful to be able to spend another holiday season with their six year old daughter. Gabi Hornsby is battling cancer. She was diagnosed with Optic Glioma when she was two and a half years old. It’s a type of cancer that wraps around the optic nerves. Doctors found a large mass in little Gabi’s brain, and it caused her to lose her eyesight.
Thanks to a type of radiation known as Proton Beam Therapy, Gabi’s aggressive tumor is shrinking. Gabi received proton beam therapy at the University of Florida’s Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville. It’s a type of therapy that is targeted and results in less side effects and less damage to normal tissue. Gabi’s mom Karen says it’s a miracle. We asked Karen if there’s a possibility of Gabi’s eyesight coming back. She says while medical science may say no, she’s keeping the faith because Gabi has already beat the odds so many times.
