mtvU Could Make 2009 Comeback

Panama City Beaches may be bare now but that’s not the case during the spring and summer months. A lot of that has to do with national spring break promotions from mtvU.

Club La Vela Marketing and Entertainment Director, Chris Pitts, says a lot of his spring break business is triggered from an mtvU presence, “Two weeks turns into 52 weeks of business. We have people that come down year round that saw us on mtv.”

While Pitt’s business benefited from spring breakers in 2008, many businesses did not. Those business leaders attended a marketing meeting held by the panama city beach tourism committee today to voice their concerns for 2009. Vice President of Marketing for the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, Susan Estley, says this years proposal introduces new ways to get local businesses straight to the tourists, “It has national exposure for the destination. It’s a multi-teared type of proposal that includes text messaging, email components, advertisements, rich media, a whole bunch of interactive components to it.”

Estley also points out that mtvU also promotes spring breakers in a positive light, never showing any of the spring breakers intoxicated, “It really has some credibility. It is good at promoting spring break responsibly here in Panama City Beach and that’s an intricate component to the proposal.”

And lets not forget, there is profit to be made. In Chris Pitt’s opinion, Panama City Beach needs this exposure in order to keep their tourism economy going, “Considering the way the economy has been this year and the uncertainty going into 2009, I think the smartest thing the city could do would be to partner up with a media company like spring break to promote for the next year.”

Here’s a newsflash for you , Pitts… This is NOT a 52 week destination, and the locals do not want MTV anywhere near here. I can’t believe how misguided and misinformed you could be. Maybe you and Estley should get one of those “magic 8 balls” for more accurate predictions. I’m asking mine right now, question: “do these people know what they are talking about,?”, and the Magic 8 Ball says,“not likely”. If ignorant parasites could fly, Panama City Beach would be an AIRPORT!
