Multiple Arrests in Jackson County Drug Bust

On April 16, 2009, Investigators with the Jackson County Drug Task Force and the Florida Highway Patrol Contraband Interdiction Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of John Leo DeMarco, at 1731 Sterrett Drive in Alford, Florida, as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of marijuana.

During the search of the residence, approximately 15 pounds of marijuana, $19,000 in U.S. Currency, approximately 6 grams on Methamphetamine, and 35 guns including hunting rifles, assault rifles two of which were discovered to be fully automatic, shotguns, and handguns. The marijuana discovered was all separated in gallon size storage bags and prepared for sale. There was also a large amount of drug paraphernalia, smoking pipes, rolling papers, as well as digital and mechanical scales, located. Also located was a large supply of various sized storage bags to be used in the sale and distribution of the marijuana.

John Leo DeMarco, 60, of 1731 Sterrett Drive, Alford, Florida, was found to be a convicted felon and in possession of firearms. DeMarco was placed under arrest for the sale of marijuana, possession of Methamphetamine, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of machine gun, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nicholette Katherine Chorak, 27, also a residence of 1731 Sterrett Drive, Alford, Florida, was found to be in possession of marijuana and was placed under arrest for felony possession of marijuana over 20 grams.

Audrey Marie Sterrett, 19, also of 1731 Sterrett Drive, Alford, Florida, was found to be in possession of a lesser amount of marijuana and was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

The Jackson County Drug Task Force is the combined effort of the Cottondale, Graceville, and Marianna Police Departments, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
