Bay County, Fla:
To strengthen the Bay County Health Department the state selected Doug Kent as it’s new director. Currently, he serves as Gulf county’s Health Director, but he’s excited to make the shift to Bay.
“It’s where I started when I was young. I was raised in the old Springfield area, so it’s like going home,” said Kent.
Kent plans to start the job with a new strategic plan. At the top of his health priority list, is dentistry, school health, and environmental methods.
“I always believe there are certain needs the people would like to see and what we’re going to try to do is put those resources there,” said Kent.
The director does more than decide health policies; he decides how the facility must function. With more than 100 employees, that’s a big task but Kent has plans to expand.
“I look forward to the growth that we can incur, very positive growth,” said Kent.
Kent believes a boost in business is likely and that potentially includes the creation of more jobs. In gulf county he took a staff of 12 up to 85 people.
“I believe you need to make high goals, if I make high goals, then if I don’t hit them, and I hit in-between, then we accomplished more than we ever thought we could,” said Kent.
He adds that the communication problems of past should be gone.
“People need to understand what you are doing, and where you are going with a program, and be consistent,” said Kent.
The Florida Department of Health selected Kent and the county commission should soon consent the decision.
