A new marketing campaign aims to encourage beachgoers to cross the Hathaway Bridge into downtown Panama City.
The Downtown Improvement Board (DIB) unveiled the $20,000 multi-media campaign at a kickoff meeting Thursday afternoon. The campaign is a cooperative effort between the DIB, Main Street merchants and the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency.
Elements of the campaign include billboards, television commercials and visitor guides. Fifty thousand of the full-color guides have been printed for distribution.
According to DIB chairperson Emily Dowdy, the campaign promotes aspects of the downtown area that make it unique.
“We’re trying to communicate what historic downtown Panama City has to offer,” she said. “It’s sort of been a hidden treasure for many years and it’s time… for us to have a tool to present it to the Southeast and to the world.”
Dutch Sanger, DIB Director, said the initial campaign will target beach tourists and visitors from surrounding counties. Plans are to expand the campaign to regional markets next year.
