Panama City Beach, Fla:

One of the most popular recreational sports we have to offer in our area is charter fishing. However the charter fishing industry is feeling the crunch at the gas pump as diesel prices continue to rise.

At Treasue Island Marina in Panama City Beach diesel fuel is currently $4.95 a gallon.  Some charters use between 6 and 10 gallons an hour paying a tremendous amount for fuel.

That is affecting the prices charged to tourists who want to charter a boat but aren’t wanting to pay the extra cash. However these charters can’t afford to fudge on prices charged because they have to compensate for the difference in fuel costs.

Some of the charter fishing boat deck hands News 13 spoke with Thursday say with the economy and fuel prices in general it’s going to make a huge impact on the industry this summer in Panama City Beach and not for the better.
