Two suspects are being questioned after leading Bay County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase through Tyndall Air Force Base.
Mario T. Swanston, 28 and Jorge Jeremiah Chacon, 24, were pulled over for a traffic stop at the Dupont Bridge. According to deputies, the two then attempted to flee, travelling east through Tyndall Air Force Base.
BCSO spokesperson Marc Tochterman said that although U.S. 98 cuts through the military installation, the roadway is still within the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction.
Speeds reached up to 80 mph during the chase. It ended just west of the Mexico Beach city limits, where Mexico Beach police had been called to assist by placing spike strips across the roadway.
The investigation is still ongoing. Official charges are expected soon.
