The Panama City Beach City Council is working on a new noise ordinance.

The city already has one in place, but the city council is looking to revise it.

In a workshop Thursday night, many beach business owners expressed that they would like to see the council add an exact decibel measure that music must stay under instead of the noise level being subjective.

Panama City Beach residents in attendance said it doesn’t really matter how loud it is. Noise is noise, and they don’t want it. Residents also said they would like the new ordinance to include restrictions on loud mufflers and fireworks, as well as a stricter time frame in which these noises cannot occur.

The current ordinance prohibits loud noises from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
