Bay County, Fla:
State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the sentencing, in Bay County Circuit Court, of David Martin Locke, II, and Justin Daniel Mendelson, on charges of Home Invasion Robbery with a Firearm and Grand Theft. Lock was also sentenced for Possession of Burglary Tools.
The pair was convicted, after a three-day trial which concluded one week ago. During the trial, Assistant State Attorney Mark Graham presented evidence that Locke and Mendelson broke into the Panama City Beach home of James and Mary Sharpe, terrorized the victims at gun point, and stole cash, jewelry, and firearms. The victims testified that the assailants threatened rape and murder in an attempt to locate the money.
Mr. Sharpe spoke at sentencing as did Bay County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jimmy Stanford. Most of the members of the Sheriff’s Office who took part in the investigation and Sheriff McKeithen were present in the courtroom.
Locke was declared a Habitual Violent Felony Offender and the court found Mendelson to be a Prison Releasee Reoffender. Each was sentenced to life in prison. Under Florida law, a life sentence means the defendant will not be released alive.
