There’s no question our country is experiencing a very serious economic problem.  As a result, Republican presidential candidate John McCain is calling for a delay of Friday’s planned presidential debate at the University of Mississippi.  McCain is also suspending his campaign so he can return to Washington.

Stability and relief seems to be what many residents in Panama City want to see, and if that means returning to Washington then that’s what they want.  Some residents say they think it is important for our future president to be involved in the conversation to fix our economy, and that whoever wins will be behind the eight ball if they’re not in Washington.  One thing is very clear, Panama City residents think there are much more important issues to focus on right now besides a campaign.

“People are hurting right now.  Look at gas.  I think they need to go back and see if they can fix something up.  This is ridiculous,” said Will Mixon.  Ebony Williams agrees, saying “all the way from the rich house to the poor house we are feeling the crunch.  Something really needs to be done about our economic situation.”

Those who are planning the debate in Mississippi say they’ll continue with preparations unless they hear otherwise.

Right now Barack Obama’s campaign says he is inclined to go ahead with the debate because he thinks Americans need to hear what the person who will be the next president has to say about the situation.

John McCain should be commended for suspending his campaign and focusing on this crisis. After all, his isn’t the President yet and he still has a job to do. Of course, Obama would rather live in the world of rhetoric than in the real world where people work to solve problems. Please explain to me why President Bush had to personally invite Obama to Washington D.C. to work on this problem. He is a Senator and should be there, no invitation required! That is his job. If Obama can’t do his current job, why should I believe he deserves the presidency? Vote for McCain/Palin in November.
