Panama City commissioners have given BP until August 15 to execute a lease for use of city property.
The company’s subcontractor has been using the Marina Civic Center parking lot and boat ramp for oil response staging operations since May. City Attorney Rowlett Bryant told commissioners on Tuesday that lease negotiations have stalled over insurance and hazardous material issues.
Bryant said BP has objected to the city’s demand that it be notified before hazardous materials are brought to the site and that the company has plans in place to safeguard those materials.
Commissioners voted 5-0 to give the company until August 15th to sign a lease agreement including those provisions… or vacate the property.
